Best Things to Do in Athens
I'm now in the capital of Greece: Athens, a city that really makes you feel and live the Greek culture by combining archaeological sites, their modern society and the best of Greek cuisine.
The Acropolis with the Parthenon is the most important and recognized archaeological samples of Athens and Greece, you can find them right in the center of the city.
The cost of admission is 20 Euros only to the Acropolis and 30 Euros to all the archaeological sites of the center of Athens.
Inside the Acropolis stands as we have mentioned the Parthenon.
And another two well preserved archaeological pieces:
Erecthenion: with the sculptures of Greek women.
And the Theater of Herodes Atticus.
You can also enjoy one of the best views of Athens from the Acropolis.
Very close to the Acropolis and with a cost of 30 euros per day, you can find the Stoa d'Attale Museum with a great explanation of Greek culture and remains found in Athens, it has been built in an ancient Greek palace which is a perfection in symmetry.
And you can also find one of the best preserved buildings in Athens: Hefestion.
Also close to the Acropolis you can find the remains of the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Archaeological remains throughout the city make of Athens without a doubt a unique city that always has its roots in mind. Other buildings that can be found among all the neighborhoods of Athens, are the churches of the Roman period.
As far as touring the city and its very different and varied districts I recommend to start in Monastiraki Square, here is also the center of nightlife with bars that have the best view of the Acropolis: A for Athens, Couleur Locale And 360 bar.
Around Monastiraki Square you will find a large number of fashion shops, souvenirs, cafes, bars and the best local food at very affordable prices.
The places I recommend are:
Karamanlidika: the best restaurant and turn carnage and Greek cheese shop in Athens.
When you enter Karamanlidika the first thing you will receive is a sample of the meats and cheeses they sell and from there the culinary experience in this place is magnificent. The dishes are delicious at a low cost, the house wine is very good and also the dessert always goes on its own. Maria the owner of the premises will personally check to see if you are satisfied with each dish. The cost of my dinner was 15 euros and it was a delicacy.
Another very famous place among the locals is Avli: The Yard, which is a very traditional Greek restaurant located in the small courtyard of a house. Here you can eat and drink for 7 euros typical dishes and drink local wine.
And as street food the undisputed winner is a small post called Fallafelas, which serves Pocket Fallafels for 3 euros which are a delight.
I highly recommend walking around Monastiraki square and also from Syntagma square which are two of the squares that divide the main districts of Athens as it is very interesting to see the contrast of classes and architecture between each one.
And I have left for the end the most famous district of Athens: Plaka, this is between the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus on a hill full of luxury hotels, restaurants and unforgettable cafes.
In this district I recommend Kafeneio which is a restaurant whose specialty are meatballs in a red sauce of the family that is unreal, and also their Greek cheese with honey.
Also in Plaka you will find Brettos Bar one of the most distinctive bars not only in Greece but in the world, they produce their own liquors with many flavors and colors.
Without a doubt Athens is a city where you can really experience Greek culture and if you are a foodie, it is a gastronomic paradise.
I say goodbye with a video in 4k of Athens, see you soon!
