The Best Travel Apps
There are a large number of travel applications which can help you in different aspects of your trip. On this occasion I will share the applications that I use continuously traveling the world and in my opinion are the best applications that you can not miss for any trip.
Flight Booking and Accommodation
The largest number of travel apps fall into this category. Whether you buy flights directly from the airline of your choice, book your hotel with the chain that you like the best or use a search engine or travel websites like: Trivago, PriceTravel, SkyScanner, Travelocity, Hoteles.com, Despegar, BestDay, Booking.com, etc. Whatever is your preference, surely it will have an App or Application to make your reservations and I recommend taking it with you on your smartphone.
If you book early enough you can often save money on airline tickets using Kiwi.com or SkyScanner. These sites / apps helped me find the best costs on more than 40 flights around the world last year and never let me down. I explain more detail in: The Cheapest Flights Worldwide.
For accommodation, you can use Hotel booking applications like Trivago and hotels.com or SkyScanner itself, but above all I recommend you to exploit other accommodation options such as hostels with Hostelworld or rent an apartment / house or room with airbnb. To decide which would be the best accommodation option and the apps that you can use I recommend you go into detail in my note: Hotel? Hostel? Airbnb? or Couch?
Without a doubt Google Maps is the app that has revolutionized the way we locate us and move around in our cities and when traveling. Before, it was common to arrive in a city and at the airport or hotel request a map of the city, now Google Maps can help you to move around and it can work without internet connection thanks to the GPS of our smartphones.
Google Maps gives you several options on how to reach a destination depending on whether you are walking, using public transport or a car. One of the new options you get is also to use a Uber. Uber can help you get out of trouble on more than one occasion when traveling like when you do not know the local language, you do not know how to use public transport, or you do not have local currency cash and you need to transport yourself.
I also recommend taking with you the Rome2Rio application, this is an app that allows you to plan travel routes using transport such as trains, buses, or ferries. Google Maps can sometimes help with these recommendations but does not always consider all the options available and that is where Rome2Rio stands out. It can help you moving to remote places, cities and towns that you access not using flights, like going from an Italian beach to an island in Croatia using a combination of train, bus and ferry precisely.
It is common that when traveling we seek to make an itinerary with recommendations of where to eat, where to take a drink and with the best attractions of a city or place near to us. Google Trips is an app that can help you create your travel itinerary, finding things to do in the destination that you are going to visit and it is very easy to use.
For finding the best recommendations of tourist attractions, the best application is definitely Trip Advisor, where you can find qualifications and recommendations from users that usually give you a better overview of what you will find or you may like more.
The weather is something that influences directly with our itineraries and travel planning. I definitely recommend that when planning to visit a destination first check what the weather is like on the dates you want to travel, there are many low-season flight offers when the weather is not the best, such as when there is the monsoon in Asia, the intense winter in Europe or Russia, or summer in Arab countries. When you approach to the dates of your trip it is also normal to carry out your itinerary of activities outdoors or in closed places based on the weather during your days of stay. Any weather app can serve you, but I recommend AccuWeather.
It is very common that when we finish packing for a trip, we feel that something is missing and we do not realize that we forgot until you left home, or on the other side when you pack things you never use during your trip. For those who need help packing and organizing, I recommend using Packpoint.
One of the worst things that can happen to you when you travel is to get to a wrong boarding room or even airport, or do not notice an important last minute warning and because of that miss a flight and destination on time. Also forgetting your flight, hotel or car rental reservation can be a big nightmare. We would all like to have an assistant who travels with you and takes care of all your reservations, and this is what Google Trips does for you.
Of course you will want to have all the social networks you can use to share your trips in real time with family and friends like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat. There are also those who use Tinder to socialize while traveling, although I personally prefer going out and meeting people along the way.
These where the Apps or applications that definitely you can not miss on your smartphone when traveling, if you know one that definitely every traveler should have do not hesitate to share it. See you soon!
