10 Things You Only Know If You've Been In Tomorrowland
1. Urinals On The Main Stage
The Tomorrowland Main Stage is the biggest and most impressive stage. Many of those attending the festival often spend hours and hours in this stage with the largest audience because of the presentation of the most famous DJs and the light show and fireworks at night. Close to the stage you can buy drinks and you only have to go out to find food or go to the bathroom, but for men there is a benefit: the venue has urinals that are part of the same scenario and it is very likely that in the live streams you have seen them but you have not noticed them.
Women can't enjoy this benefit, but if you are a man and you do not feel too shy, you will have the benefit of keep listening to your favorite DJ while peeing. Unfortunately, although drinks and urinals are accessible in this scenario, moving from your place may mean losing your spot or losing your friends.
2. Night Shouts In Dreamville
Dreamville is the most used lodging option for those attending Tomorrowland which consists of camping at the same festival. Space is limited and accesses are sold just as fast as the tickets. About 40,000 people camp each year with thousands of camping tents covering a vast area. Therefore, it is difficult to find your own tent and even during the day it is easy to get lost, but especially at night when lighting is limited and if you have been drinking too much, it is very possible to get lost. You will hear people shouting Alan and Steve all night, so don't try to find your friends shouting their names. It is very likely that if you do not end up finding your tent, there will be some charitable soul that will receive you in their tent to talk and spend the night.
3. Agenda To See Your Favorite DJs
The biggest problem that everyone faces in Tomorrowland is to set their agenda to see all your favorite DJs in more than 15 scenarios, it is very possible you have to sacrifice to see several of them as there are so many DJs and it is common that two of them play at the same time or that they are in very distant stages one of another. From the access near the Main Stage to the Opera Stage you can easily make 25 minutes or more according to the amount of people you will cross with. It is a common mistake for new assistants to think that you can see 2 DJs playing at the same time without knowing the distance between stages or thinking you will see the whole set of all your favorite DJs, but in the end you only see a few minutes because you are moving from one stage to another. By the way from Dreamville to the stages of Tomorrowland you do between 30 to 45 minutes walking depending on how close your tent is to the entrance, another important factor to considerate to not to be late to see your first DJ set.
The currency within Tomorrowland is called Pearls, it is a digital currency that works through your access bracelet and you can acquire them before arriving with your account with which you bought your ticket in the Tomorrowland system or you can buy them already in Dreamville or Tomorrowland with any credit card. The pearls are used for everything, for taking a shower, to buy drinks and food, to buy souvenirs, etc. It is good to protect yourself by buying enough pearls and if you have still some at the end of the festival you can change them again for money. Each Pearl is usually worth around 1.5 Euros The drinks cost around 3 to 5 Pearls and the food around 10 Pearls depending on the dishes.
5. Queues And More Queues
With around 200,000 visitors per weekend, it should not surprise you that to get many of the services you have to go through queues and more queues. Inside the festival, I was surprised that the waiting time in bathrooms is relatively little or nothing, and is incredible for the quantity of people, but for drinks and food you will have to wait several minutes. Where the queues can be even more tedious is in Dreamville where 40,000 people usually get up and want to eat breakfast at very similar times, you can take in a queue over an hour to bathe or to buy food. My recommendation is to get up early and take a bathe and breakfast and then take a nap, is better to use an hour carrying energy that stood in a queue.
And the other recommendation to avoid such a long queue when bathing is to bathe with cold water, because in the shower area of Dreamville you can pay and bathe with hot water where people take their time, or you can do it free with cold water and in a swimsuit in front of everyone, and this queue it is usually much faster.
6. Love In Tomorrowland
You can find the love of your life among so many people from around the world or if you decided to travel with your partner maybe you decide to get married in Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland has offered wedding rings that you can buy at Dreamville's jewelry store and usually every year there is a chapel that can be used for weddings like others in EDC festivals or with a bed or mattress for some private action as they have existed in Burning Man.
7. Shopping In Dreamville
If you decide to stay in Dreamville you will find that you have all kinds of business or shops at your disposal, like a mini super to get any item you need, a barbershop and beauty shop if you want to look very attractive during the festival, a jewelry store with unique items of Tomorrowland, souvenir shops where I recommend buying first if you want sizes of what you like, a bakery, butcher shop, shops to buy mobile chips and have internet during the festival or to rent / buy mobile chargers, several drinks and international food shops, a tattoo parlor and clothing for festival, a recycling center where if you recycle bottles and garbage they will give you pearls or special items, the stand of the radio that broadcasts the festival, stands that share the newspaper of the day and something that saves many is a store that sells camping gear, if you do not bring anything for camping but you have money, this shop can give you everything you need and is the one that saves many but is expensive. As a tip they sell cheap inflatable beds that you should buy, sleeping in a sleeping bag on the ground that is not uniform will annihilate your back.
8. TML VIP
Within Dreamville the vast majority choose to camp with their own camping equipment or buy a Tomorrowland tent, there is also the option of cabins for groups and they cost more but also they have better showers and more private and safe areas. But there are also the mansions that have their own private area with communal pool, jacuzzi, kitchen, private parking, butlers and hotel suite rooms with living room, etc. The cost of a mansion is 21,000 Euros without festival tickets and for 12 people, in other words a cost of 1,750 USD per person only the lodging approximately and already with festival tickets and other expenses like drinks and restaurants you can calculate about 2,500 USD per person if you want to attend the festival in a VIP way (this cost is only for a weekend of the festival without flights, if you do not want to be VIP a budget of 1,000 USD for a festival weekend is enough: ticket, camping, expenses).
9. Footwear For Tomorrowland
For Tomorrowland or any festival outdoors one of the most important aspects is the footwear and you must consider that the great majority of the time you will be standing and dancing so there are two rules that I recommend: first to wear comfortable shoes, sneakers or boots if you do not want to suffer, and second it can always rain so you should take more than a pair of comfortable shoes or boots in case you get soaked or end up muddy. By the way at the end of the festival I always throw my pair of shoes because they end up being scraps of pure dust and mistreatment, I do not recommend you to wear some pair of shoes with great affection but something comfortable and disposable.
10. Welcome Parties
There are two welcome parties to Tomorrowland. One that is not always done every year, but usually is made on Wednesday before the weekend of the festival in Brussels open to all the public in the main square and another on Thursday of arrival inside Dreamville called The Gathering only for those who camp with Dreamville. Both are usually just as good as the festival and perfect to start making friends that will last a lifetime.
In recent years I have seen many security issues during the festival. Tomorrowland is a place where we believe that everything is happiness and good vibes, but unfortunately it is not like that. Every year there are cases of people who had been robbed both in Dreamville and in the festival and I will comment the most common ways in which this happens.
In Dreamville while you are partying, people can steal what is inside your tent, I have heard from people who lost a laptop, camera, some women jewelry or high cost clothing. Here the recommendation is that any item of value, you should leave it in lockers that are available. I do not recommend putting a lock in your tent since that does not prevent them from entering and may even attract those who do this.
In the festival the most common place where people get stolen is in Main Stage, there are many pitpocketing cases and is the most common case of get your phone stolen. Also there is people that has been pushed and they take off jewelry from them, etc. It is recommended during the festival to also carry your valuables in a safe place and avoid carrying jewelry.
Finally there is always questions around the use of drugs. It isn't allowed to use drugs in Tomorrowland and Dreamville, to enter both places they usually have dogs that check if you carry some kind of drug, every year you see some people been checked and are referred to the authorities, I know they will fine you and will remove your bracelet to access either Dreamville and/or Tomorrowland, so under your own risk you can try to do it. Inside the festival I've seen people offering drugs, but it is not very common to find vendors, because the use of drugs isn't the main reason why people attend to the festival.
I say goodbye with one more recommendation for those who plan to go to the festival and those we have already been there. Keep water bottle caps and pass them hidden when entering the festival since the drinks they give you are always open and without cap, which is tedious since you do not want to be taking a bottle of water instantly. Other option is having and hydration backpack.
I hope you like these curiosities and data of one of the best festivals in the world and do not forget to share and especially watch the live stream at https://live.tomorrowland.com/
Until the next time!
